Memes
You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute. Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

1. First name: Erin. I go by my middle name, Alicja, pronounced A-leet-see-ah

2. Age: 24, almost the big 2-5. Incidentally, that's also my "golden" birthday, as I was born on the 25th

3. Location:Vancouver, BC. Just moved here in September, across the country from everything and everyone I know.

4. Occupation: RN on spinal unit (people who break their backs/need elective surgery) neuro (the brain and nothing but the brain) and burns, plastics and trauma (NOT cosmetic plastic surgery.)

5. Partner: Just Chris. We are boringly vanilla compared to most of his friends.

6. Kids: Not yet. one day..like 5 years from now.

7. Siblings: My sister Frannie, step sister Millie and step brother Shelbie. Mostly I talk about my sister.

8. Pets: Two cats, George and Reggie. George is now bigger than Reggie, although I don't think HE knows that yet. She still rules the house with an iron fist.

9. 3 biggest things going on in my life:
A) I am currently working towards a short term goal of working in the Intensive Care Unit. This will take a much longer time than I want to, however it's kinda necessary if I want to, you know, be a good nurse.
B) My sister is having a BABY!! So I'm busy chatting to her about that and trying to figure out how I'm gonna make it home for the delivery.
C) my sister is getting married! so I'm helping plan the wedding/showers/etc.

10. Parents: Ed and Jackie (married to Mike). Although they seem like pretty much normal people (my dad anyway. my mom is batshit crazy) my dad has a remarkably interesting past.

11. Some of my closest friends are: very far away from me right now.

Adventures in Sleep Dentinstry

so, I had to go get a tooth removed, and due to my dental history and HIGH anxiety related to dentists, they gave me a sedative. It was a drug called Triazolam. I remember getting my blood pressure taken before taking the medication, going to lie down, chatting with one of the assistants for a while, getting hooked up to an O2 sat monitor and then I had to pee. they seemed really concerned with the whole peeing thing, and they called for some help. At this point I'm thinking "what? the drugs haven't taken into effect yet, I'm okay" then I tried to stand up..and it didn't work. They gave me a SHITLOAD of freezing (like 2 20cc syringes).
This is Chris filling me in.
At one point, they had to call him in the room to help get my arm out of my sleave cuz i couldn't life my arm up. They asked me to hold my arm up, and I managed to get it..nowhere. So Chris held my arm up so they could take my blood pressure. I can remember some of tooh extraction, but not a whole lot. Chris left after they took my blood pressure the first time so he could fill the prescription for pain medication and go get my crocheting that I left at the hospital the night before. Apparently like 6 people helped him look for it, so thank you for that. I remember thinking during the extraction "I hope they give him the tooth, I want to look at it" I also remember him doing the stitches and thinking "oh wow I can't feel that at all" Chris got back from running errands in time to help me to the car along with the dentist's dad, who is also dentist. The dentist gave me a shot to wake me up, and I remember thinking "what's that for? i'm already awake" According to Chris I visibly woke up and was able to do things like move my own limbs. apparently I told the dentist's dad that his son was really good. I also had no concept of my own limitations and was uncertain why I even needed help. On the car ride home, Chris told me all about how he made me some hard boiled eggs and had potatoes cut and ready to boil so I could have something to eat (he had to work in the after noon) and that he picked up my pain medication. He also told me that he would leave a note so when i forgot I could read the note. I said "don't worry about writing the note, I'll remember everything". I completely forget this conversation taking place. So we get home, Chris helped me out of car. He Grabbed one of my arms to try and help, but I wasn't stable enough, so I fell back into the car. So he grabbed both arms and hoisted me out and I proceeded to yell at him for not using proper body mechanics (I also don't remember this conversation). So as we were walking Chris was trying to help me. The entire time I was insistant that I could walk, so chris said "you don't want to fall, you just had your tooth taken out" and I said "what's the worst that could happen? I can't knock my tooth out, it's already gone"
Once he got me up he helped me walk in. Then we got to the elevator. I leaned against chris and fell asleep. and then apparently deciced I was done standing. the we got off the elevator kind of akwardly walking sideways through a door. Walking to the hallway to the apartment I would walk straight for a bit, and then veer left. for no reason. thank god our apartment is close to the elevator. So chris gets the apartment and has to let me go so he can open the door. I kept telling him I could hold myself up. As he was getting the door open, I started to slide against the walll..falling. After I got in the apartment, I went straight to the kitchen cuz I had the hiccups. chris told me to go to bed, he'd bring me a glass of water. So I went towards the bedroom, I decided I had to pee (kinda remember this) chris asked me if I could do it by myself, and Isaid NO (Do NOT remember this part) and Chris walked me into the bathroom, and I got myself on the toilet. i also asked for my pain medication (wanted it before the freezing wore off) Chris went to get me a glass of water from the kitchen, and by the time he got back I was using the bathroom cup. he handed me the bottles. I looked at them, and I remember one of the bottles (dexamethasone) but i couldn't understand the directions. the T3 I looked at it, read the directions, got the cap off and took one (don't remember this). I tried to open the decadron, but couldn't, so chris poured it for me. When I took a drink with the pills, I said "I'm gonna drool" so i used one hand to block the part of my face that was frozen (don't remember this) I also demenstrated to chris which part of my lips/mouth were frozen. "I can feel it, I can feel it...I can't feel it". So then I went to bed. I got off all my clothes except my socks. Chris helped me with those (don't remember this) Chris covered me with the quilt, cuz I get cold when I'm sleeping. then I slept till 745pm.

and that's my story.

Edit by Chris-"At no point in the afternoon were you going ANYWHERE by yourself. I was carring you. You were unable to sustain your own weight"

We went to the school for a picnic and we were sitting in front of the pond in this clearing and the sun was shining and we were just about to eat when he said that he wanted to say something. So he said “ I love you, you are my best friend, you’re my everything. I realized that it doesn’t matter what I say, I don’t need some grand gesture or a crazy song. So it’s just you and me and a little question and a big box. Alicja Wakerley, will you marry me” and he handed me the box.

And that's the story.

Treating book authors as though they were exes, who is...:

The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it: Anne Rice

The old flame you don't see very often anymore but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets: Roald Dahl (yup..)

The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy: Kurt Vonnegut

The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffeehouses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy... and then a few years ago he cleaned himself up and got a job in the food service industry and now he won't shut up about how much hates George Bush as if he's the first one who ever hated George Bush and he's still fucking crazy and immature and annoying but boy is he still hot: Stephen J Cannell

The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town: hhmm...Dan Brown (stop laughing)

The steady: Douglas Coupland..he's just so...steady.

The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with: Isaav Asimov (I agree with alex on that one)

The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't: JRR Tolkien

The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere: Neil Gormain

The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "him? how the hell did he land all these cool babes?" the guy that wrote Snow Crash..I just don't get it...

The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you just know it's going to end badly: hhmmm....I can't think of any right now.
Also-Chuck Palanhuik gets the "old flame that I have crazy sex with when they're back in town" category.

So, my first plane fights were completely unremakrable. There was some turbulance, but nothing crazy like they show on TV. (once again, TV you have LIED to me!). Once I got to Edmonton, I got my bags okay, then made the mistake of catching a cab to where I'm living. $75 later, I am poorer than I expected I would be. To the point where food is a luxury I can't afford right now. At any rate, I get to the residence, and it is UNDER CONSTRUCTION!! (for those of you from UOIT or who have heard my stories, you'll understand). I can't get AWAY from it. I'm all moved in now and unpacked and making up lists of stuff to buy from the dollar store when I get money. I met a bunch of the other girls that are also working at Capital Health with me, and they seem really nice. I start on Monday, orientation for a week, which I get paid for, thank GOD.
ANyway, that's all for now

Book 1-Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes
Really funny, well written book about 3 women in Ireland who realize that what they have isn't really what they want or need. (that sounds like a publicity tag...) At any rate it's a great, easy read.

Book 2-Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes
Very satirical look at high society in New York...I recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh and an easy read.

Book 3-Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card
This is the second book in the Ender's Game series. AMAZINGLY written look at society, and how time changes society's opinion of what was once seen as a heroic act. It also looks at how cultures view different things. All in All, really good. It is science fiction, but I think that alot of people would like it.

0650-Get to 9M, my placement for the semester. I've only got 13 shifts left, and am very excited. I generally enjoy 9M, for the sheer variety of patients. Print off a worksheet, start looking at the kardex's and report from night shift.
0715-Get a call that my patient from room 11B needs to get ready to go down to nuclear medicine by 0800 for a PICC line insertion, then she was getting a bone scan, then a foot x-ray. I ask the night nurse "If I pull the stretcher up in the hall, can she get out of bed and walk to it" The nurse says "yup, for sure". I go inthe room..the patient is an AMPUTEE!! and not an arm amputee..a leg amputee. Myself and another nurse get her on the stretcher.
0720-Lab techs come up to draw blood from my patient on the stretcher
0730-my patient goes down for her tests, etc
0730-1030-I give some enemas, talk with some families, etc
1100-A nurse decideds he's too sick to be here, Janet and Barb frantically try to get someone to come in. They do. She comes in, he leaves. She's getting report..a patient walks out of her room and down the hall to the nurses station (unaided) and says "I was just wondering when the nurse is going to come and give me my bed bath"
1130-my patient comes back fron nuclear medicine, vomiting profusely. Her family then spends the next hour following me around until the Dr. orders gravol and antacid.
1230-my other family has been constantly pestering about the fact that my patient hasn;t had a bowel movement yet. I explained to them that the pt is having problems because they don't want to poo in front of their family. The say they understand, but don't leave the patient alone....Fuckers.
1300-one of the RPN's asks me to look at an IV site that she thinks has gone interstitial...it did...quite badly. The RN that left sick told her it was just "positional"..bullshit.

and so on...until 1915 (715pm) when I went to go catch the bus..that didn't come until 745......
